All-new Range Rover revealed

Sunday, September 9, 2012

The fourth generation Range Rover is being trumpeted as the world's ultimate luxury SUV. Starting from £71,295 in the UK, the Range Rover is the first SUV to be constructed entirely from lightweight aluminium, which means a 420kg weight saving that translates into a 22 per cent improvement in economy and emissions.

The sleeker take on the classic Range Rover design is more aerodynamic while also adding more than 118mm of legroom and more space in the back of the car, with an executive-class rear seat option also available. The driving position is more than 90mm higher than other premium SUVs. The options list is extensive, including a range of interior colours, finishes and details, plus alloy wheels up to 22 inches in diameter.

The SUV has an improved wading depth of 900mm and can tow a trailer weighing up to 3,500kg. There's a choice of 500bhp supercharged V8 petrol or 3.0-litre V6 and 4.4-litre V8 diesel engines - all with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The 3.0-litre V6 diesel returns 37.7mpg, and emits 196g/km. Land Rover will also introduce a high-efficiency diesel hybrid model later in 2013, aiming to get emissions down to 169g/km.

This latest Range Rover comes equipped with the next generation of Land Rover's Terrain Response system, lightweight suspension, full-time four-wheel drive, electronic traction control, dynamic response active lean control, electric power steering, park assist, adaptive cruise control with a new queue assist feature, intelligent emergency braking assist, blind spot monitoring, closing vehicle sensing, reverse traffic detection, surround camera system with T junction view, trailer reverse park assist and trailer hitch assist.

You also get keyless entry, soft door close with power latching, power upper and lower boot doors, cooler compartments, electrically deployable towbar, Merdian surround stereo, fully digital instruments, central dual-view eight-inch touchscreen, voice control, mobile connectivity, four-zone climate control with park heater timer, multi-mode massage seats and LED ambient lighting that can change colour to suit the driver's mood.

The Range Rover Vogue 3.0-litre V6 costs £71,295, rising to £98,395 for the top-of-the-range Autobiography 5.0-litre V8 supercharged model.

You can order a new Range Rover now, with sales due to start in late 2012.
